Borders Badminton Group Visit Kelvin Hall - Bank Of Scotland Centenary International

Trip To Kelvin Hall, Saturday 24th November. Arranged in conjunction with BADMINTONscotland and the BORDERS BADMINTON GROUP.

A carnival atmosphere greeted Borders Badminton Players on court in the Kelvin Hall Glasgow.

More than 30 adults and juniors travelled to Kelvin Hall on Saturday the 24th November to attend the semi finals day of the Bank Of Scotland Centenary International Championships. Invited by Badminton Scotland, the Borders were well represented with junior badminton players from Jedburgh, St. Boswells, Duns, and surrounding villages. Arranged in conjunction with the Borders Badminton Group, the players were treated to a carnival atmosphere of fun, games and competitive badminton with several border players coming away with prizes for their efforts. More excitement followed as everyone watched singles and doubles semi final matches featuring top International players. The juniors were encouraged to make as much noise as possible and to hunt down the top players for autographs to be treasured. A great day was had by all.

COACHING
The club are fortunate to have several members trained to offer coaching in badminton. With one Club Coach (Level 2), several Instructors (Level 1), one member with the Leaders Award (able to assist with coaching), and accompanied by a dedicated group of members willing to assist, there is ample opportunity to improve your game of badminton.

Badminton is one of nine sports currently targeted for development in the Scottish Borders by the Sports Development Unit who are applying resources to further athlete, coach and club development.

For further details, view the coaching page.

THRIVING JUNIOR SECTION

Coaching is critical for the future success of the club. For more information, view the coaching page.

To retain the current junior membership and to attract newcomers to the game, coaching at all levels is available and offered in a structured manner.

With this in mind, the club is affiliated to Badminton Scotland, the governing body for Badminton in Scotland.

DUTY OF CARE
Those in charge of coaching juniors have been through the disclosure process for Badminton Scotland and/or Education Works. To help ensure that a well organised, safe and responsible environment exists for everyone, the club follows the guidelines established by Badminton Scotland.

Members have recently attended Child Protection and First Aid workshops and the committee are planning to introduce a child protection and welfare role. These initiatives are designed to enhance the safety and care of children, club members, coaches and committee.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN
To safeguard the future of the club, a long term Development Plan will be considered during the 2007-08 season, a new venture for JBC. Its hoped to consider goals for both the club and for coaching.

SOCIAL ASPECTS

For the seniors, JBC has a social side to it and its hoped to continue with friendly matches, a mid season outing and a presentation night buffet and dance at the end of the season (normally the last Friday In March).

J.B.C. also tries to arrange matches with other clubs and with the introduction of a small 'social committee' for 2007-08, the club hopes to retain its social status and return to more regular friendlies.

Its hoped to repeat a mid season night out with evening meal and there's the opportunity to run a video night featuring footage of the marathons from the 90's. Should be good for a laugh or a cringe.
