The Carnival in full swing

Sponsored by BADMINTONscotland and the Borders Badminton Group, nearly 50 people travelled up to the Kelvin Hall on Sunday the 22nd of November 2009. It was finals day of the International Badminton Championships and youngsters from all over the Borders took part in a Badminton Carnival before seeing the top players in action and gathering autographs from their favourites.

The carnivals are organised by BADMINTONscotland and with a mixture of fun games and coaching to a background of pop music filling the Kelvin Hall arena, the two hour session was enjoyed by all.

HRH the Earl of Wessex was in attendance and with top players from all over the world, the action was fast and furious. Scotland had two finalists and the crowd cheered on their local players.

SUSAN EGELSTAFF delighted the home crowd when she won her first Scottish International Badminton Championships title. Her 21-18, 21-10 win over Russia's No.1 seed Ella Diehl in the women's singles final was emphatic and the perfect follow up to Scotland's memorable win over Australia in the rugby at Murrayfield 24 hours earlier.
