Scottish Four Nations Disabled Championships

Jedburgh Badminton Club member Graeme Lang won the class 2 category lifting the honours after winning his group competition against four of his fellow players. Graeme rarely misses a club night unless of course Rangers are in action!

During the summer months, two of our members have been successful in passing the UKCC Level 1 certificate in coaching badminton. This strengthens the coaching resources for Jedburgh Badminton Club and helps ensure its future. Well done Myra and Tracey!

Two of our junior members are obviously impressed with the club. Without any prompting, they created a superb colour poster advertising the coaching sessions. Thanks girls.

COACHING
The club are fortunate to have several members trained to offer coaching in badminton. With one Club Coach (Level 2), several Instructors (Level 1), one member with the Leaders Award (able to assist with coaching), and accompanied by a dedicated group of members willing to assist, there is ample opportunity to improve your game of badminton.

Badminton is one of nine sports currently targeted for development in the Scottish Borders by the Sports Development Unit who are applying resources to further athlete, coach and club development.

For further details, view the coaching page.

THRIVING JUNIOR SECTION

Coaching is critical for the future success of the club. For more information, view the coaching page.

To retain the current junior membership and to attract newcomers to the game, coaching at all levels is available and offered in a structured manner.

With this in mind, the club is affiliated to Badminton Scotland, the governing body for Badminton in Scotland.

DUTY OF CARE
Those in charge of coaching juniors have been through the disclosure process for Badminton Scotland and/or Education Works. To help ensure that a well organised, safe and responsible environment exists for everyone, the club follows the guidelines established by Badminton Scotland.

Members have recently attended Child Protection and First Aid workshops and the committee are planning to introduce a child protection and welfare role. These initiatives are designed to enhance the safety and care of children, club members, coaches and committee.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN
To safeguard the future of the club, a long term Development Plan will be considered during the 2007-08 season, a new venture for JBC. Its hoped to consider goals for both the club and for coaching.

SOCIAL ASPECTS

For the seniors, JBC has a social side to it and its hoped to continue with friendly matches, a mid season outing and a presentation night buffet and dance at the end of the season (normally the last Friday In March).

J.B.C. also tries to arrange matches with other clubs and with the introduction of a small 'social committee' for 2007-08, the club hopes to retain its social status and return to more regular friendlies.

Its hoped to repeat a mid season night out with evening meal and there's the opportunity to run a video night featuring footage of the marathons from the 90's. Should be good for a laugh or a cringe.
