Laws of Badminton

Here are the updated Laws of Badminton from the International Badminton Federation (IBF). These came into effect following the IBF AGM in Tokyo, May 2006. The new scoring system for badminton is explained within these Laws: IBF Laws of Badminton 2006

Scotland's David Craig (European Badminton Union Accredited Umpire) gives a quick 10 step guide to the new scoring system:  Rally Point Scoring

Handicapping Considerations

At JBC, we held a brief discussion on tournament handicapping under the new rally point scoring system. I came across an interesting article in one of the Badminton Scotland magazines and its comforting to see that others are faced with the same dilemma.

Shuttles

Shuttles cost money and should be treated with respect on and off the court. Feather shuttles in particular should be handled with care. Please try not to stand on the shuttles or hit a shuttle across the floor as a means of returning the shuttle. If you are knocking up prior to a game, always select a used shuttle switching to a 'good' one for play.
