Welcome to the J.B.C. Web Site (Scotland)
STRINGING AND RE-STRINGS SOME INFORMATION
TO HELP YOU
If you are a
member of JBC or located in the South or Central Scotland and you want a good quality restring, quick turnaround
and a competitive price, look no further than
RAPID
REPAIRS based in
Gullane (Gullane Sports) and North Berwick. It was
Ben who put me on to Rapid Repairs and to date, I can't
fault his recommendation.
Over the years
I've tried CENTRAL SPORTS Coventry and some local sports outlets who
shall remain nameless through fear of retribution (joke). Central
Sports do a good job but are a tad on the expensive side. Other
local
suppliers of restrings appear to restring at a fairly low tension
and its not long before you feel you are in need of yet another
restring - hmmmm.
My last
restring with Rapid Repairs was posted on a Wednesday, repaired
Thursday and it was back with me Friday - not bad for £13.00
(Price 2007) and
YONEX BG 65 TITANIUM. Now that's
RAPID!
Price
includes Post/Packing.
I'm not on
commission with Rapid Repairs, a few people have asked me about a
restringing service and I think this is a good one. Visit their
website, select your string preference (and tension if required),
phone them or email them to let them know the racket is on its way
and you can give your credit card details over the phone. No need to
include details with the racket by post - risky if the racket goes
missing. Recorded or registered post is safest.
'Rapid Repairs'
restring rackets for the following well known Scottish players, you
may recognise some of the names;
Robert Blair, Susan Hughes, Russell Hogg, Yuan Wemyss, Dan Travers,
Kenny Middlemiss, Sandra Watt, Christine Black.
Hope you find this information useful
- John. BASIC STRING FACTS
By adjusting the string tension, you can adjust the
amount of power or control that you get from any string, thick or
thin.
There is correlation between tension, power and control. Tension and
power are related. So are power and control.
Some folks assume
a higher string tension will give them more power. As the Nationwide
advert says "It doesn't work like that". A higher string tension
generates more control and less power.
A lower string
tension generates more power, providing string movement does not
occur. String movement - that's when you should consider a restring.
A thinner string
produces more power and feel, weighs less, is more aerodynamic, and
breaks quicker.
A thicker string
lasts longer and has less feel. A longer string or string plane area
generates more power - thus the oversized and reshaped rackets in
recent years.

A racket loses roughly 10 percent of its tension the
day after it's strung-and that's if it's not used. The tension will
drop a bit more every time you play it.
Now that's worrying. |
