Jedburgh Badminton Club caters for social and competitive players and since the early eighties, the number of tournaments run every year has grown steadily. Some of the tournaments involve other clubs and are regarded as 'friendlies' with a pie and pint to follow.
Tournaments are entirely optional and the club operates a handicap and seeding system to try and even up any imbalance of abilities. Individually seeded players are not permitted to play as a pair, level or mixed. Seeded pairs, normally four per tournament, are positioned in the draws as per standard rules.

A handicap committee maintain handicaps throughout the year for ladies and gents. These handicaps are used in all but one of the main tournaments.

Members Please note!

If you enter a tournament, you must be in the games hall by 7.15pm at the latest or notify the committee if you are to be late (otherwise you may be excluded from the draw). If you have entered and are unable to play on the night, please inform the committee as soon as possible, thank you.

January      Seedless Cup

The Seedless Cup was presented to Jedburgh Badminton Club by Vaughan Hammond, a member of J.B.C. in the 1990’s.  The idea behind this tournament was to give non seeded players a better opportunity to win therefore the top players (seeded players) are not entitled to compete in this tournament. The Seedless Cup is a mixed doubles knockout event and handicaps apply. The cup was first played for in the 1995 – 96 season.

February    Veterans

Trophy donated by Andrew Haddon for the over 40’s only. First held in 2002. The Veterans tournament is a mixed doubles round robin handicap event using individual player handicaps combined to form team handicaps.

March        OPEN

A new format for JBC, seeds can be drawn together, no handicapping. Play your best to win.

JBC operates the new Rally Point scoring System adopted by the club in 2007. Members adapted well to this with the juniors taking to it very quickly.

It will be interesting to see if further changes are made in the next few years.

Separate tournaments, Ladies and gents, no handicapping, knockout style and if sufficient numbers, a plate tournament may follow. Normally run throughout the season but the finals are usually scheduled for the end of March.

The following tournaments are 'friendlies' and run when time permits and teams are available to compete against!
